Gliding

Gliding activity at Villeneuve Airport for signed-up cadets. Weather may cause activity to be cancelled or shortened.

@ Villeneuve Airport

Apr. 27, 2024 09:00 AM to 03:00 PM

GENERAL

- Clothing selection should be based on the current seasonal and forecasted weather conditions and temperature. It is important to note that cadets will be running and pushing gliders to and from the takeoff and landing lanes.

- Field Training Uniforms (FTU) are not encouraged to be worn as they are not sufficient for gliding day activities.

- A proper hat is required to minimize sun exposure to the face, and to minimize the loss of body heat. Berets, or wedges are not sufficient forms of head wear. Ball caps or toques are highly encouraged based on the forecast.

- Appropriate layers for colder weather such as gloves, thermal layers, and warm shoes or boots to insulate body heat are strongly recommended.

 - Proper shoes for running are recommended when the weather permits.

- Civilian clothing must follow standard cadet practices by ensuring the clothing is appropriate, in good repair, and free of offensive slogans / images.

- Cadets who are not dressed adequately for the weather, will be told to call their parent(s) / guardian(s), and will not be able to attend the activity.

- Cadets shall bring their own water bottle filled with water. Not every CFS has potable water on site. Water will be provided with lunch when it arrives to the site.

- Sunscreen and bug spray for proper protection are also encouraged.

- Lawn chairs may be brought for comfort if the participant chooses not to sit on the ground when it is cold or wet field conditions.

TRANSPORTATION

- Cadets must be dropped off and picked up by parents/guardians to the location in the instructions email.

- Cadet participants are expected to travel to the local CFS in appropriate civilian clothing.

MEALS

- Meals are provided during the RDA. Requests for food related preferences, intolerances, and / or allergies cannot always be accommodated. There will be some Vegetarian options available. If you have dietary restrictions you are highly encouraged to bring additional food/snacks. Please avoid bringing items that will produce light garbage. Cadets will be on an airport and wind will blow loose trash onto the runways.

- Cadets are allowed to bring snacks for the day.

FACILITIES

- Cellular Phone. Cadets are authorized to bring cellular telephones to the RDA. RCSU (NW) does not take any responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged phone or electronics. Each RDA site will advise cadets on the policy for securing, and use of, electronics. Cadets will be required to follow this policy as cellular phones have the potential to be disruptive when it undermines the integrity of individual’s rights to privacy, adversely affects the quality of teaching or learning, and / or interferes with the efficient operation of the RDA.
